Ha ha! There's a great photo of TOFU BABY and PETE McCOMMONS (editor and publisher of Athens' weekly entertainment newspaper, FLAGPOLE) up on the Flagpole website HERE...Pete's quote was in response to the winner of the "world music" category, who confessed that he was a Tofu Baby hater. Did Tofu Baby actually say anything? And if so, did she rhyme?
Yes, Missy did Tofu Baby's voice from backstage...Tofu Baby didn't rhyme, but she did speak with her famous "wisp"...I have video a photos that I still need to download off my camera...
...gotta leave now...I'm performing with Gemini Cricket in about half-an-hour...yikes!
Yay! They finally have the video up!
That's not how I imagined Tofu Baby sounding. I mean, the inflection and accent were right, but I always thought she'd sound more high-pitched.
But that was awesome, and I was happy to hear people cheer for her.
Concerning Tofu Baby's voice:
1) The show organizers were concerned about Missy using a "weird voice" for Tofu Baby because Pete is hard of hearing and uses a hearing aid...so, she had to speak as plainly, slowly, and loudly as possible WITHOUT sounding like she had a learning disability...
2) We wanted our friend Terri to do the voice of Tofu Baby, but weren't able to organize anything before hand (the show organizers didn't even contact Missy about presenting at the awards ceremony until about a week-and-a-half before the event)...but, in the future, if Tofu Baby ever gets animated or something, our friend Terri will probably do the voice, and it will be higher and squeeky...
