God Don't Make No Junk

SALE 7793

Last weekend, we hit up a large YARD SALE hosted by this Baptist church in town...well, a nearby LUTHERAN CHURCH decided to have their own yard sale this weekend. We were out and about running errands this morning and luckily, the church just happened to be on our route. We drawn to this giant HANDMADE INFLATABLE WHALE that was beached in their parking lot...the whale wasn't for sale - it was just there to draw people to the sale. We were told that the whale was made out of PLASTIC TARP, DUCT TAPE, and a standard BOX FAN. The eyes were made out of PAPER PLATES. Imagine our surprise when they told us that you can actually GO INSIDE THE WHALE. Of course, we had to test this out. Things got a little psychedelic in the belly of the whale...

The whale was pretty much the highlight of the sale...we didn't make out as well as we did last week, and only managed to pick up a few items. Oh well...

On the way to the post office, we hit up BORDERS and took advantage of their "GOING OUT OF BUSINESS" sale...I think the church yard sale left us a little unsatisfied, and so we were determined to find a good deal...

Yard Sale Saturday

I got these embroidery supplies and some old felt.
Yesterday we went round to some yard sales and a rummage sale at a local church. We found some neat stuff, too. I found some craft supplies like felt and embroidery hoops.

This is an old embroidery hoop I got, too. It is all metal and has cork on the inner hoop to hold it tight. I never saw one like this.
This hoop is metal and has cork on the inner hoop so it holds the fabric. I have never seen this type of hoop, or this shape before.

Got some jingle bells, too.
I can always use some jingle bells, so I picked these up.

I found this set if miniature deer, too. The price on the back said 49 cents!
I got this set of miniature deer, too. This was my favorite find of the day! The back of the package says "Made in Hong Kong" and the original price tag reads 49 cents!

These are the ornaments I found at the yard sale. I thought it was a full Nativity until I looked closer.
There were some Christmas miniatures in with the deer, too. We just took what was in the box home. I thought these small ornaments were a full nativity, but it is just a mismatched set. I wonder where everyone else is? Raoul said they fell in the grass.

My deery pillow I got at a yard sale for a quarter!
Last, but not least, I got this lovely handmade deer pillow. This was stuffed in a box with a bunch of forgotten plush (a sad sight, indeed). I was not going to go through the boxes, but I did while Raoul looked at records. I found this pillow and it says "Fauna, Handmade in Brooklyn" on the back. I am certain I saw it online and in magazines. Another yard sale shopper told me she saw those at the NYC Gift Fair and that she thought it was strange to find it in a box of forgotten toys! I got it for a quarter. Score!

Trash Or Treasure

YARD 7605

Today we got up early to hit a huge YARD SALE happening at a local Baptist Church. The thing about this church yard sale is that, a lot of houses in the surrounding neighborhood also schedule their own yard sales accordingly...so we basically hopped from one yard sale to the next all morning. But first things first - we had to stop at the ATM to get cash and we needed some HI-NRG music to get us in the mood (and to wake us up)...

Whether at a grocery store, a gift shop, a thrift store, or a yard sale, Missy and I can spot something designed by the company we work for from a mile away. In this case, it was a green ceramic TEAPOT...we turned it over to confirm what we already knew:

We finally hit pay dirt - a bunch of CRAFTING SUPPLIES that no one seemed to care about. We ended up getting three bags of POLY-FIL STUFFING, a bunch of EMBROIDERY HOOPS, an embroidery kit, a bunch of felt, and miscellaneous crafty odds and ends...

I was curious to see what kind of music I could find at a church yard sale. Not surprisingly, there were a good number of AMY GRANT recordings. I found this CASSETTE BOX SET of popular movie and TV show theme songs. THE GODFATHER, KOJAK, and ROCKY were on the cover so naturally, I had to add it to my music collection...
