Me on Etsy Conversations Podcast
Please have a listen to my interview on Etsy Conversations Podcast! I did an interview about my Etsy Shoppe Sugar Cookie with Angela Holden. Angela is a fellow graphic designer who runs her own Etsy shop, too - it is called Angela Holden Design. I had a fun conversation with Angela all about Etsy, of course, pen pals, Def Leppard, and much more. I was happy to talk to Angela because her podcast is really important to learning more about handmade, crafts, Etsy, and the people behind their shops. Please have a listen to my interview, and feel free to leave a comment on the Etsy Conversations blog!

Mix Tape!
Yay! We LOVE LOVE LOVE Melbourne, Australia's MIX TAPE ZINE! We're especially excited about the latest issue because Missy's got a brand new ADVERTISEMENT in it. Reading IS cute! If you didn't already know, Mix Tape isn't all about music, like their name might suggest (though, they do have a page or two of music reviews)...rather, it's focus is a mix of all sorts of creative mediums, with an emphasis on crafting and art. There's also articles on food, recipes, how-to's, and of course, some music stuff. If you get a chance, check out their website HERE and maybe pick up a copy...or better yet, subscribe!

Tofu Baby - Behind The Soy!
Hey Folks!
Missy and her notorious comic strip character TOFU BABY are this week's cover story in our local FLAGPOLE MAGAZINE! The story was written by ANDRE GALLANT of the NEITHER BIG NOR TALL blog and you can read more of his writing HERE (thank you, Andre, YOU RULE!).The story focuses on the rise in notoriety of the comic strip that Missy has been drawing for the Flagpole for several years now, and especially on the polarizing effect of her Tofu Baby character, and how such a cute and harmless little comic has the power to inspire hatred, meanness, and ignorance on one hand, and gleeful twee delight for children of all ages on the other. If you're in or around Athens, please be sure to pick up a copy. If you're not from around these parts, please check out the on-line version of the story HERE. The on-line version is a bit different from the printed version - you get a couple more pictures in the on-line version, including a sample of an impressive piece of HATERISM in the form of a totally defaced Tofu Baby comic. There's an added paragraph in the on-line version that doesn't appear in the printed one, but there's also a paragraph missing - so, on-line, I'm mysteriously mentioned as "de la Cruz" without any point of reference. Whatevs! Point is, both versions will give you a little taste of how our lil'Tofu Baby is rising to the status of "local icon" - like it or not!
Below is a picture of a Tofu Baby comic that somebody burned with a CIGARETTE. There's a funny story that goes along with this particular photo (which Missy and I have only heard of, but not seen until today - we copied it from the Flagpole site). Our friend IAN, who works for Flagpole, was in a local taco joint with a friend who was visiting from out of state. He was trying to explain to them the whole Tofu Baby phenomenon that was just happening in our little town, and how much ire Tofu Baby was causing in some people. He grabbed a free copy of Flagpole off a new stand so he could show them the comic and lo and behold, as if on cue, someone had carefully BURNED AWAY the Tofu Baby comic and then placed the Flagpole back on the news stand. And this is just one of MANY crazy stories we have that revolve around Tofu Baby!

Page Magazine, Ja!
Back in September I got a message from PAGE MAGAZINE in Germany. They were contacting zine publishers and asked me all about my zines and how I got started doing them. I also mentioned my band, THE FRENCH TOASTS, and that for each live show we perform we make a zine to remember that performance. Well, the zines are made, whether or not we want to remember the performance is another story (uh, haha?). Well, I am pleased to see this write up in print form in the very amazing design magazine, Page! If you are in Germany, please have a look. This means you, Alexander, cos I know you are reading this! Sehr toll!
