Become Awesome Business People!

CRAFTERS 0081

Missy was invited by the ATHENS AREA CRAFTERS: BECOME AWESOME BUSINESS PEOPLE MEET-UP GROUP tonight to share some of her insight on running a successful ETSY SHOP and crafty business. For nearly three hours we discussed the ins and outs of the "crafting biz as we know it", sharing whatever useful information, tips, and tricks we had up our sleeve. It was an honor to be invited to speak with the group and we had a blast bouncing ideas off each other, sharing knowledge, networking, and making new friends.

Unicorn Necklace

Me and the wooden unicorn charm.
I was asked by ANDREA via Etsy if I could make her a unicorn charm through my Alchemy at SHOPPE SUGAR COOKIE. She wanted it to be like my FLOSSY THE UNICORN, so I could not pass this offer up. I made the unicorn charm and here it is! I think it really looks, uh, charming!

Unicorn charm.
Here is my charm close up. I love the happy look of this unicorn and the square link sterling silver chain I used for this particular necklace. It really sparkles in the light, making this unicorn more lovely and magical!

Blast From The Past: Xmas In August

xmas

All this hot weather lately is making us wish for winter again...maybe the fact that Missy and I are both Northerners by birth has something to do with that. I pulled this old photo from Missy's collection - back in 2002, Missy and her friends set up a show at the sadly defunct X-RAY CAFE in downtown Athens, Georgia. The show was called CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST - it was a hot August night and they decorated the entire store like it was Christmas. Missy performed that night as SUGAR COOKIE, with her friends Matthew and Patrick as her backing band. She even got dressed up as a CHRISTMAS ELF for the occassion...

Blast From the Past: Snowflake Soiree

ready to go!, originally uploaded by sugar-cookie.

Do you remember the first indie craft market you participated in? Well, I was reminded of the Snowflake Soiree we had from Emily's thoughtful post. This was a great memory for me cos Raoul had just moved here at the end of October and I had set up the Soiree at the Athens Recess Center.

welcome to the snowflake soiree
The Athens Recess Center (aka ARC) was a community space run by locals, namely my friend Jo, who was thrilled to have the ARC host this event. We had the chalkboard out and balloons from my work, too. Even though it rained, we had an excellent turn out. All our goodie bags got snatched up so fast!

look at all the holiday cheer
We had our table packed to the gills with Raoul's pouches, plush doggies, ornaments, zines, and much more. I have not looked at these photos in a long time. I see lots of handmade goodies that I don't even make anymore. Maybe I should bring some of that stuff back?

emily and her friend
Emily and Jenny were at a table together. Look at all those fabulous goodies! We had a bunch of crafters there - like Glue and Glitter, A bardis, Deli Made, and Genevieve Gail to name a few.

And Sarah, too!

Tissue Pals and More...

bunny tissue pal

frog tissue pal
Here are some of the Tissue Pals I have been sewing! I made these for some of the holiday craft markets we have been attending. They come in handy and make great little pressies! I know I use a froggie one each day. I love it. I have added a couple to my Etsy, SHOPPE SUGAR COOKIE. My shop is also stocked with new button designs and a few Tofu Baby shirts, too. Won't you have a look?

We will also be at the HAND.CRAFT.IT. holiday market and music festival. This takes place on Saturday, December 13 at the Madison Morgan Cultural Center in cute little Madison, Georgia. It should be a very good time! Madison is a cute town and they have a really good chocolate shop and antique shops, too.

Wooden Bling

wood bling
I have been making some new charms lately. Above you see some fabulous wooden bling, cos hey, who can afford the real thing? Ha ha. This is far more glamorous, wouldn't you agree? I already gave some as birthday gifts to my good friends Jo and Melinda!

bis charm
Here is another wood charm design I made, too. This little biscuit is inspired by my zakka craft books I got when I visited Chicago a few years ago. I saw embroidered biscuits, but thought it would be more fun to have a wooden biscuit that you can't eat.

Tofu Baby charm
I simply had to get some Tofu Baby charms made, too. Just like the real thing, only flat!

All of these wonderful new goodies will be at ICE Atlanta on November 15 and Athens Indie Craftstravaganza on November 22. come by and say hi to us! Don't fret, you can still get these and more on my website or Shoppe Sugar Cookie!
