A couple of weeks ago we got to see the ROBOWORLD exhibit at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh. The exhibit was one of many little themed exhibits on display there. At the entrance to the exhibit, we were greeted by a creepy robot who was even creepier up close because it had DOLLAR SIGNS for eyeballs...
There was a robot that played AIR HOCKEY, but none of us got to challenge it because the line to play was too long and our patience was short...
There was another robotic arm that shot BASKET BALL HOOPS with incredible accuracy...
And then there were some famous (and not so famous) robots from film and television. First up was ROBBY THE ROBOT from the film FORBIDDEN PLANET:
Then, there was the B9 ROBOT from the TV series LOST IN SPACE..."Danger, Will Robinson!":
I forgot the name of THIS LITTLE ROBOT and the movie it appeared in:
There was also HAL 9000 from the movie 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (technically, he's a computer not a robot, but oh well):
Of course, there was C-3PO and R2-D2 from the STAR WARS movies:
GORT, from THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL:
And finally, MARIA, from the movie masterpiece, METROPOLIS. Maria was the inspiration for C-3PO, a good 50 years before his time:
