Continuing out slide-show from the CARNEGIE SCIENCE CENTER...they had some little AQUARIUMS there for everyone to check out. These aquariums were connected by tubes, which reminded me of those HABITRAIL TUBES that you would get for your PET HAMSTER and stuff...
Really dug this funky-looking ROCK LOBSTER. The underside looked like one of those things from ALIEN, and if it weren't for the glass aquarium it was in, I'm sure it would've attached itself to my face...
Missy and her uncle, Eddie, discuss plans for world domination:
Outside, we ran into this TRICERATOPS on our way to the SUBMARINE parked in the waters of the Monongahela River. Missy's brother Joe did his COPPERTONE GIRL impersonation for us...
Missy and her aunt, Monica, had their "picture made" in front of the USS REQUIN before we got on board the and went down the hatch...
In the belly of the submarine, every thing was compact, cramped, and a little clausterphobic...we could only imagine what it must've been like to be trapped on board with a whole crew of sailors for months at a time. All around were little vignettes that hinted at what life must've been like in the submarine. They even used bits and pieces of ephemera from the 1940's left over by the sailors, only discovered when time came to clean out the ship...
"D7.....YOU SANK MY BATTLESHIP!"
Heading back to Dormont, we passed the TOM'S DINER where we had a late night meal the very first night we arrived in Pittsburgh (and yes, we couldn't help but think of the SUZANNE VEGA song of the same name). Back at Greg & Cristina's house, we hung out and made food for the 4th of July...
