We've been spending the last couple of weekends hanging out in Atlanta and in between those trips it's been rainy...so it's been a good while since we've been able to work on our backyard. We still have the other half of the yard to weed and mulch, and still more flowers and plants need to be got and planted. However, we did manage to mulch along the entire back fence line, outlining and rounding the back-left corner of the yard...
We are also not looking forward to rehabbing the old FIRE PIT. According to one of our neighbors, the previous home owners used to burn their trash and old furniture in the fire pit, creating our own little BROWN FIELD situation that we need to detox and clean up. A cursory raking through the pit turned up tons of broken glass, charred pieces of wood and plastic, metal springs and hinges, and burnt up aluminum beer cans....and that's just the tip of the iceberg. It's going to take a while to remove all the tainted dirt. The plan is to replace the pit with a multi-tiered raised bed filled with herbs, plants, and flowers...
We're looking forward to getting back to our regular weekend routine of working in the yard, running out to the nurseries for garden supplies, and then rewarding our hard work with some ice cold treats at SUNO...
