So, I have a bunch of photos from our trip to California a couple of weeks ago, but I promised myself I wouldn't download them from my camera until I finish posting all my photos from our Pittsburgh trip a month ago...so here I go. When we were in Pittsburgh last month, we headed downtown to the MUSEUM OF COMIC AND CARTOON ART (a.k.a. the TOONSEUM) to see the CARE BEARS' 30th ANNIVERSARY exhibit...
Out in front of the Toonseum, there were several CLAPBOARDS to entice would-be nerds and geeks to come inside. To the side of the museum, there was a little courtyard, framed by these giant statues of STREET MUSICIANS, silently serenading passers-by...
There was a bookstore-slash-giftshop at the entrance of the museum. Missy posed under the cartoon anvil before we paid for our admission...
Directly behind the gift shop, there was an ANTIQUE DRAWING DESK. We were told that it belonged to one of the original DISNEY ANIMATORS, and that portions of Disney's BAMBI and FANTASIA were drawn on it! Whoa! Crazy, right? Of course, Missy couldn't help but draw her own TOFU BABY on the very same drawing board that those classic Disney films were drawn on...
Inside, the walls were lined with original Care Bears drawings, sketches, animation cells, and various other ephemera. No matter what you though of the Care Bears, you couldn't help but grin from ear to ear...
Because Missy and I work in the Art Department of a company that designs "balloons and coordinating gift items" (she as a product designer and me as the department's resource and reference librarian), we geeked out over the massive CARE BEARS STYLE GUIDE notebook and the PANTONE COLOR GUIDES for the Care Bear Cousins...
