(Missy posing with ROY LICHTENSTEIN'S "HOUSE III" outside The High Museum in Atlanta)
This past Saturday, Missy and I headed out to THE HIGH MUSEUM / WOODRUFF ARTS CENTER to see DEAN & BRITTA perform "13 MOST BEAUTIFUL", in which they play a live music accompaniment to 13 specially-selected ANDY WARHOL film portraits, also known as "STILLIES". The project was initiated by the Warhol Museum back in 2008 and they were originally slated to do only ten performances. The tour has since extended to over 70 performances all around the world and Saturday was their Atlanta premiere. Needless to say, it was a pretty amazing experience...
I didn't take too many photos during the performance because my camera doesn't take very good photos in the dark (Missy, on the other hand, took some brilliant shots and hopefully she'll post her photos to the blog in the next couple of days). I couldn't resist but take a photo of Warhol ingenue EDIE SEDGWICK:
Between each film, the band gave a little back story for each of the subjects shown. DENNIS HOPPER was an early supporter of Warhol - he bought one of Andy's signature CAMPBELL'S SOUP CAN paintings for just ONE HUNDRED BUCKS:
A young MARY WORONOV, best known for her role in the movie "EATING RAOUL":
NICO being coy, hiding behind Britta:
Everyone's favorite portrait of the night - LOU REED of THE VELVET UNDERGROUND. He got the biggest cheer of the night...maybe it was because he was sucking down a bottle of COKE and here we were, in Atlanta, the home of COCA COLA, the shadow of THE WORLD OF COCA COLA only blocks away...
JANE HOLZER closed out the night, brushing her teeth for the camera, followed by a short encore which included an awesome cover of JOY DIVISION'S "CEREMONY". Afterwards, everyone crowded towards The High Museum for the after party. It looked like hoards of people were circling the giant KAWS sculpture in the courtyard like we were all on a pilgrimage to Mecca...
