Saturday night, Missy and I headed downtown to catch the annual TERRAPIN TWILIGHT CRITERIUM pro-bike race. It was crowded, hot, and sweaty but a lot of fun nevertheless. The race consisted of 80 laps stretched around several blocks of downtown Athens - it's kinda like NASCAR, but with pro-cyclists. We watched about 40 laps before the heat and drunken crowds got to us...
We took a break and decided to watch the race from inside the air-conditioned comfort of YOGURI while cooling off with a bucket of frozen yogurt yumness...

Weekend Wind-Down #145
New ZIne, Dork Lifestyle Number 4
I made a new zine recently! It is called Dork Lifestyle. It is a collection of my comics from Fierce and Nerdy. Fierce and Nerdy is a great website that my good friend Ernessa T. Carter created. If you don't read it, you should!
Not only does this issue of Dork Lifestlye feature my comics about hitch hiking, Henry Rollins, and high school, but it also shows some new comics that were not published on the Fierce and Nerdy website and that are only available in this issue! Super!
You can get my newest zine on my personal website here, or at Shoppe Sugar Cookie on Etsy!

Sketchbook Sunday - Thrift Stores and Self Portraits
I started to draw some things I found at thrift stores and a few self portraits. I like to draw clothes, so I focused on that. I also love to draw bunnies, so I added that, too! Only I am not good at picking up our pet rabbits at all. They are much too wiggly!
Here is a mug, a ceramic planter, and a dress I found at thrift shops. I might put them into a zine some day.
These are some drawings of clothing I got in vintage shops. The first one is me in the 1990's wearing a shirt dress from a friend and some Doc Martens shoes that I bought a few sizes too big. Why did I do that? The other pencil sketch is a top I got downtown - it makes me look like a waitress!
I found this plush squirrel at a thrift sale - and this squirrel is wearing a pink floral pattern dress!
Upcycle
A week ago, Missy and I attended the opening of a new exhibition at ATHICA called "UPCYCLE" - a show focused on recycling, upcycling, and reusing everyday trash...of course, local artist CAP MAN makes an appearance in the show, with his ubiquitous PICK-UP TRUCK (decorated entirely with bottle caps) and a new little TRAILER which was in the process of getting the Cap Man treatment...
We picked up some recycling propaganda and scored some free SEEDS:
I think they were trying to show that PLASTIC FORKS could be used as building blocks, kinda like Tinker Toys...but oddly, the forks and rubber bands looked to be BRAND NEW and not USED...which pretty much flew in the face of the whole point of the show:
The STYROFOAM and PAPER CUPS in this serpentine sculpture were definitely used:
My favorite thing from the exhibition was this display of MINIATURE LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS, all done inside plastic bottle caps:
Missy's favorite thing was this piece called "POLLEN" - flowers made from un-recyclable polyurethane foam from pillows, cushions, and mattresses:
We stuck around long enough to watch the Upcycle TRASHION SHOW that took place on the platform outside of ATHICA. Michael Lachowski (of PYLON fame) sat on the panel of judges as the models strutted their stuff, striking a pose on the back of the Cap Man's truck...
Havi explains to Missy the different materials that went into making the dresses...
The ECOTONES - an a cappella singing group comprised of eco-conscious students from the different science majors at UGA - entertained the crowd as the judges deliberated on the winning outfits. They did a medley of songs from Disney's LION KING, a Black-Eyed Peas cover, and a clever cover of Billy Joel's "For The Longest Time" with the lyrics changed Weird Al-style to explain "how fossils work"...
