Yesterday night, Missy and I headed an hour west of Athens to explore the BUFORD HIGHWAY - an unsightly stretch of road on the outskirts of Atlanta where Mexican carnicerias, Korean karaoke bars, Chinese discos, and third-world swap meets rub shoulders in one strip mall after the next. Our first stop was at the mighty BUFORD HIGHWAY FARMERS MARKET - not really a farmers market, per se, but really a giant INTERNATIONAL SUPERMARKET that largely supports the diverse latin/asian/russian community of Doraville, Georgia.
We stocked up on fruits and veggies, always with an eye out for cute and/or interesting food packaging for inspiration...
I totally bought these:
Oof. Have you ever tried DURIAN? I have, despite all the warnings. I figured, "It's a fruit - what harm could it do?" Well, it tasted like what I imagine CAT PEE to taste like and the taste lingered in my mouth for a couple of days in spite of numerous teeth brushings and consumption of tasty food. Never again...
The NO PHOTO signs posted every where prevented me from getting some really good shots...oh well...
The cool thing about the Buford Farmers Market is that the aisles are organized by ethnicity. So they have KOREAN aisles, MEXICAN aisles, and BRAZILIAN/SOUTH AMERICAN aisles, FILIPINO aisles, RUSSIAN/EASTERN EUROPEAN aisles, etc. etc. etc...
I liked the juxtaposition of the CUTE BUNNY image with the CUTS OF MEAT on this packaging:
Afterwards, we hit up HARMONY VEGETARIAN CHINESE RESTAURANT for a late dinner. We were hungry for some bomb-ass vegetarian Chinese food and we eagerly gobbled up the SESAME and GENERAL TSAO MOCK CHICKEN dishes we ordered...
Missy ordered BROWN RICE and I ordered WHITE RICE...they brought the rice together in one bowl, which I re-christened "INTER-RACIAL HARMONY RICE":
We hopped over to the WHITE WINDMILL BAKERY & CAFE for dessert and to get a few things for the road. It was well after 10pm and the place was PACKED. Apparently, White Windmill is the place to be on the Buford on a Saturday night. We grabbed some cookies and macarons and hit the road

Harmony is love. DELICIOUS LOVE. I've never been to the farmers market but seeing your pictures = we're going to go to it ASAP!
You should check it out, too. Different than Dekalb, with different stuff. Harmony was really good and we had "chicken" dishes, so it was nice to try two different ones. I loved the steamed dumplings the most.
Oh my goodness! WAY too much cute packaging! And I like MIssy's blunt cut bob!
