This weekend, we decided that it was time for us to get OREO, our pet bunny, a "HUSBUN"...so, we packed her up into our pet carrier and took her to the House Rabbit Society's HOUSE RABBIT CENTER in Marietta, Georgia. We booked an appointment at noon for Oreo to meet a MATCHMAKER who would help us find a new friend for her...
Missy chose three likely candidates from the many rescued rabbits staying at the House Rabbit Center...the three lucky boy bunnies got to SPEED DATE with Oreo in the center's play area. One by one, each rabbit would spend a little bit of time hanging out with Oreo, in order for Edie - the matchmaker, a.k.a. THE BUNNY WHISPERER - to determine which lucky bachelor would be the most compatible companion...
First up was an all-white bunny named DANDELION...he had a really sweet face...and such sad eyes! Oreo chased him all around the play area...she really liked him!
Bachelor number two was P-NUT...Oreo liked him, but he didn't reciprocate her feelings. He kept thumping at her, warning her to "back off" whenever she gave chase...
Bachelor number three was SIDNEY...they DID NOT get along at all! As soon as we put them together, they started to chase each other in this tight "CIRCLE OF DEATH", which is this little dance that rabbits get into before they rip each other to shreds (according to Edie, The Bunny Whisperer). We had to quickly break them up with a broom...
So, we brought Dandelion back out so that he and Oreo could get to know each other better. Edie worked her shaman magic on the bunnies - she started by transferring their scent from one to the other by rubbing them together like she was trying to start a fire. It was pretty funny. Later, I would joke that rubbing two rabbits together made glitter...Missy also tried her hand(s) at "rabbit rubbing"...
Check out this cute LIONHEAD bunny that came in before we left...he looked like a little old man! And his name is WILBUR!
After getting their nails clipped, the buns got nice and cozy in the carrier and got even more acquainted on our ride back home to Athens...
Back at RANCHO COCOA, we added another pen next to Oreo's...we plan to combine both pens into one big pen that they can both share, once they get more used to each other. Nilla made sure the pens were "up to code" before the new guy moved in. We were nervous about how Nilla would react to the new bunny...but luckily for us, she loves him! They started playing together, just as soon as they met...
