Front And Center

Last Friday, Missy and I headed out to ATHICA (Athens Institute For Contemporary Art) to attend the opening of their newest exhibition called CENTER...

We met up with our friends Allison, Josie, and Katelyn and explored other parts of the Chase Street Warehouses - the row of old warehouses that have been converted into studios, businesses, and living spaces, which ATHICA is a part of. While cooling off outside, the RUBBER SOUL CLOWN CLUB pulled up in an OLD JALOPY, ready to serenade the crowd with a TUBA QUINTET. The troupe was made up of four quintessential HOBO CLOWNS led by a smartly dressed DRUM MAJOR, who conducted them through renditions of "When The Saints Go Marching In" and "The Banana Boat Song (Day-O)"...all the while, they were harassed by a KEYSTONE COP on a bicycle, who tried in vain to stop their public performance...







































A complete stranger asked us to watch her dog, BILBO, so she could go in ATHICA and look at the exhibition. We kindly obliged...

















One of the pieces revolved around a local Athens landmark and slice of weird history called "THE TREE THAT OWNS ITSELF" (click HERE to see the history of the tree)...participants were encouraged to take an ACORN that was attached to a little flag and then plant it somewhere in Athens. There was a map that you could mark with a pin, showing where you were planning on planting the seed...

Last Thyme After Thyme

After 25 years in business, our most favorite garden center and one of our most favorite places in all of Clarke County closed it's gates forever this past weekend. Since buying our house back in 2007, we've gone back to THYME AFTER THYME year after year in order to stock garden with locally-grown native plants and flowers. Though they discouraged people taking photos at Thyme After Thyme, we always did whenever we could because...how could we not? The place is beautiful and abound with great gardening scenes and ideas. We went back to Thyme After Thyme for one last time this weekend to take photos and to buy autumnal plants and flowers for our garden. We went on their very last day and stayed until the last hour. Needless to say, we're so very sad to see them go...











































We also paid a visit to Thyme After Thyme a couple of weeks ago when Missy's parents were in town, and they got a chance to see it one last time as well...
