Weekend Wind-Down #107

This past 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND, Missy and I took her parents to THE VARSITY to check out the CLASSIC CAR SHOW that was happening in their parking lot. We got there as things were starting to wind down and the sun started to dip, taking with it the relentless summer heat. Oldies from the 50's, 60's, and 70's blasted from a mobile sound system as admirers wandered from one car to the next, marveling at truly classic automobiles and even some pimped out modern rides...





Missy's favorite car at the show was this pint-sized VOLKSWAGEN BUS, complete with MATCHING LUGGAGE SET...





Our second-favorite car was this shiny stainless-steel DELOREAN...the time-traveling automobile from the BACK TO THE FUTURE movie franchise! This would've made the top of our list if only the owner was thoughtful enough to add a replica FLUX CAPACITOR to the inside of the car. But alas, an opportunity to take things to the next level was shamefully missed...





The NIXON bumper sticker on this EDSEL was a nice touch, along with the DANCING HULA CAT on the dash board. Seeing this car made me wish that the newest season of MAD MEN would start already...





Of course, it wouldn't be a proper 4th of July car show without at least one vintage military vehicle...



My favorite car at the show? Why, that would be the GALAXIE 500 of course!





Missy's dad checks out a not-so-mint BONNIE & CLYDE-era automobile...



One of the highlights was this electric-powered three-wheeled CORBIN SPARROW, with matching electric blue paint job...





FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE PAST WEEK?
JOHN - Arriving at Missy and Raoul’s.
RITA - Seeing Missy, Raoul, Nilla, and Oreo.
MISSY - Having my parents come visit.
RAOUL - 4th of July weekend, of course!

WORST MOMENT OF THE PAST WEEK?
JOHN - Leaving the cool temperatures of PA!
RITA - Dropping Harry off (at the kennel) and seeing NIlla scared from the fireworks
MISSY - Seeing Nilla running scared from the sound of the fireworks.
RAOUL - Waking up with a migrane Sunday morning...

FUNNIEST MOMENT OF THE PAST WEEK?
JOHN - Watching Missy and her Mom watching the fireworks.
RITA - Missy trying on my glasses.
MISSY - Seeing Oreo sitting on my Mom’s lap, eating.
RAOUL - Our tour guide at CNN was pretty funny...

WORD OR PHRASE OF THE PAST WEEK?
JOHN - “Steely Dan!”
RITA - “Who farted?”
MISSY - “Who floated?”
RAOUL - “Poo Poo Cheese”

FAVORITE MEAL OF THE PAST WEEK?
JOHN - Missy’s tofu dish and cumcumber salad and Raoul’s mashed potatoes.
RITA - Missy’s tofu dish and cucumber salad and Raoul’s mashed potatoes.
MISSY - The same thing.
RAOUL - Ditto.

THREE THINGS ON YOUR TO-DO LIST FOR THIS WEEK?
JOHN - Drive back to PA, apolgize to an undertaker, and crank up the printing press.
RITA - Finish painting your door, go to Target, and maybe make dinner for you guys.
MISSY - Update my iPod, buy cat litter, and eat some leftovers - we have so much!
RAOUL - Scrape the paint off the bathroom tiles, get my car fixed, call my insurance company.

FAVORITE WAY TO KEEP COOL DURING THE SUMMER?
JOHN - Cold beer!
RITA - Being in the air conditioning.
MISSY - Popsicles!
RAOUL - Air conditioning + oscillating fan.

FAVORITE SUMMER VACATION DESTINATION?
JOHN - The outer banks of South Carolina.
RITA - Maine.
MISSY - Rock City and Ruby Falls (Tennessee)
RAOUL - Anywhere with a cool climate.

PERSONAL SOUNDTRACK FOR THE PAST WEEK?
JOHN - April March - “Mon Petite Ami”...I can’t get that song out of my head!
RITA - Anything Rolling Stones...
MISSY - Same as Dad’s....and talk radio.
