(record shopping and live music at the VACATION boutique in Atlanta)
This past Saturday night, Missy and I headed out to Atlanta to meet up with KATY (BOTTLE ROCKET ZINE), LOUISE (SAPRICOT ZINE), and their entourage of friends. The plan was to meet up for tea at the cozy and ridiculously-named DR. BOMBAY'S UNDERWATER TEA PARTY cafe...Missy and I got to Atlanta a little early so we could browse in various galleries, antique shops, and record stores:
Later that evening we met up with everyone at Dr. Bombay's...we were excited to finally meet Louise in person. Louise and her friends, who were visiting from Maryland, went to South Carolina to see MORRISSEY perform. Her friends had tickets to see him perform in Atlanta that Saturday night as well, but he cancelled the show due to a sore throat. So everyone ended up coming to Dr. Bombay's. Determined to make the evening as TWEE as possible, Katy busted out her copy of SARAOPOLY - a board game put out by SARAH RECORDS, based loosely on the board game Monopoly. Instead of buying real estate, the goal of Saraopoly is to run a record label by collecting all the necessary accouterments - record bags, posters, etc...the game is totally convoluted and confusing, much like running a real record label:
Missy upped the twee factor by bringing her BLYTHE doll to the party:
McNair and Robert are totally enthralled with the novelization of the sci-fi flick, K-PAX:
Louise read the complicated rules out loud while Katy set up the board. Meanwhile, Missy tucked into a big bowl of CURRY while I enjoyed a cup of primary-colored SUPERMAN ICE CREAM:
Check out the dog spooning the little kid in this ad for NOAH'S ARK:

Per the rules of Saraopoly, Louise and Katy (a.k.a. team CREATION RECORDS) declare their intention to "take the train":

In order to make the night the ultimate in twee, Louise and Katy decided to prank call a certain indiepop celebrity (hint: he wrote a song called "Twee"...how totally meta, right?)

"THIS GUY!" Katy strikes a pose with McNair:
The party spilled out onto the sidewalk...everyone took turns writing and drawing in Katy's slam book and there was plenty of picture taking:
Ebbie takes a photo of Louise and Katy outside of Dr. Bombay's:
A passing drag queen (the blurry figure with the humongous black wig) agreed to have her picture taken with the group, but as soon as I grabbed my camera back from the car she sauntered away into the night:
FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE PAST WEEK?
MISSY - Meeting Katy, Louise, and their friends!
RAOUL - Tea party + Saraopoly at Dr. Bombay's.
KATY - Seeing Louise after rescuing her and crew from the apparently difficult to navigate suburb that is my neighborhood--singing along to Dirty Song and WaHo was pretty great too. In unrelated awesome, I also saw Sweeney Todd performed by Catholic high school students and that was hilariously great--wow, am I indecisive!
LOUISE - Seeing Katy IRL for the first time since we met on the Badger bus.
WORST MOMENT OF THE PAST WEEK?
MISSY - I had a few nightmares this week.
RAOUL - Busting my gut at Stevi B's.
KATY - Oooh, Friday when I got to first period and realized I had a vocab quiz that I had not, in fact, studied for.
LOUISE - Finding out the ATL Moz show was cancelled, even though I wasn't going, cause Paulie was bummed.
FUNNIEST MOMENT OF THE PAST WEEK?
MISSY - Oreo laying down by me and sitting on my lap.
RAOUL - The drag queen that showed up at the end of the tea party was the cherry on top.
KATY - Yelling "I, ALAN MCGEE, HEREBY DECLARE MY INTENTIONS OF CATCHING A TRAIN!" And then calling up some people and leaving that as an answering machine message. Saropoly is good if it's UK Indie Rules but better as Strip--PHENOMENAL!
LOUISE - Moz singing AX ME AX ME AX ME instead of ASK ME ASK ME ASK ME.
WORD OR PHRASE OF THE PAST WEEK?
MISSY - "I, ALAN MCGEE, HEREBY DECLARE MY INTENTION TO CATCH A TRAIN!"
RAOUL - "Fritzie"
KATY - "Wicked"
LOUISE - "I, [NAME HERE (yours or someone else's)], HEREBY DECLARE MY INTENTION TO CATCH A TRAIN"
FAVORITE MEAL OF THE PAST WEEK?
MISSY - Curry and hibiscus tea at Dr. Bombay's Underwater Tea Party.
RAOUL - Busting my gut at Stevi B's.
KATY - WAHO WAHO WAHO! I doubled my hashbrowns. It was only fifty cents more, too. Which was unexpected.
LOUISE - WaHo 1/4 cheeseburger and hash brown.
FAVORITE KIND OF TEA?
MISSY - I like a good Earl Grey, but I like Red Rose tea because you get a little figurine.
RAOUL - Green tea with agave nectar...anti-oxidants are good for you.
KATY - Earl Grey!!!!!
LOUISE - Earl Grey with honey!
THREE THINGS ON YOUR TO-DO LIST FOR NEXT WEEK?
MISSY - keep up with Wii Fit, plant some bulbs, hang up some artwork.
RAOUL - Detox, workout, clean up backyard.
KATY - Email people regarding the sold-outness of fanzines, read zines from Missy, run away to Athens
LOUISE - 1. Study 2. Hang out at WMUC 3. Tag some pics on facebook!
FAVORITE MORRISSEY OR SMITHS SONG?
MISSY - We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful
RAOUL - Interesting Drug
KATY - Stretch Out and Wait
LOUISE - Ax
IF YOU STARTED A RECORD LABEL, WHAT WOULD IT BE CALLED?
MISSY - Prancing Pony Records.
RAOUL - Popgun Recordings.
KATY - Staircase Wit.
LOUISE - Caboose! So we could make shorts that said caboose on the butt.
PERSONAL SOUNDTRACK FOR THE PAST WEEK?
MISSY - Siouxie And The Banshees, Of Montreal, Alessi's Ark, Sleater-Kinney, Beirut. Blast Off Country Style.
RAOUL - The Smiths, Morrissey, Beirut, Nico, Blast Off Country Style, Radio Sweethearts, Silicon Teens, 53rd & 3rd "Fun While It Lasted" comp.
KATY - Athens Boys Choir, The Lucksmiths as usual, Magnetic Fields! Whatever shuffle plays (AKA more Lucksmiths)
LOUISE - Smiths, Athens Boy's Choir, the Lodger, the Manhattan Love Suicides, the Clean, Jonathan Richman, JAMC, Moz, Beat Happening, the Smiths again, and what Paulie and Ebbie played in the car (Smiths and Smiths, respectively)

Your posts always make me so happy! This one was especially sweet :)
Awwwp! Andrew Culture, I think I might've accidently deleted your comment...sorry!
It's okay, I don't think it was anything epoch defining! In fact I'm not even 100% on what 'epoch' actually means!
