Pop Songs Your New Boyfriend's Too Stupid To Know About - Part Four

POPFEST 9447

Saturday night's festivities at the 40 WATT started a good 10 to 15 minutes earlier than expected, resulting in me and Missy missing much of THE SMITTENS set. I guess there were so many bands on the bill that they were afraid that the headliners would get cut short. Some of the other bands that played that night were unfortunately regulated to much shorter sets, which totally sucked for both the bands and the audience.

THEE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, featuring THE APPLES IN STEREO's Rober Schneider, played an unfortunately abbreviated set. I think they got in two songs before they got the plug pulled on them:

We decided to stay in the back corner of the club, nestled between the merch tables and the bar. Here, Missy sits with Sara from GEMINI CRICKET, and Brigette and Scott of TUNABUNNY:

At long last, the moment everybody had been waiting for finally arrived when Julian Koster of THE MUSIC TAPES took to the stage, with various members of the ELEPHANT SIX COLLECTIVE forming his backing band, along with a giant metronome, a pair of mechanical clapping hands, and a singing television set:

Missy and I tried to get closer to the stage so that we might get a (hopefully) better view:

At some point towards the end of the show, kazoos were handed out to everyone. There was a rush of people heading up onto the stage, and before we even knew what had happened, Katy, Missy, and I found ourselves on stage WITH the Music Tapes. We, along with everyone else, had become part of the spectacular spectacle:

And then, just as we thought things couldn't get any better or weirder, or crazier, Julian led all the musicians off the stage, and marched out of the 40 Watt, with the entire audience following, still humming on their kazoos:

The procession of people ended up in a pitch black empty field, several blocks away from the 40 Watt club, somewhere off of Hancock avenue. Everyone sat in the field as Julian tried to explain a game that everyone could play that was a combination of "Marco Polo" and "Freeze Tag", played with jingle bells and blindfolds:

In the end, Missy, Katy, Eric, and I left as the game was commencing. We were all really tired and hungry. We took Katy back to her sister's dorm on the UGA campus, and then went for a very late night snack at IHOP...

THE END!
