Thursday night we headed out to KNIT NITE at ATHICA (the ATHENS INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY ART)...Knit Nite was a special event held in conjunction with the current CRAFTING ROMANCE exhibit (which, by the way, is AWESOME. GO SEE IT if you get a chance - it's FREE, but they do also take donations. More info HERE). Missy and I grabbed our knitting projects and headed over to the gallery to craft with other creatives. We met a few old friends and made quite a few new ones and got some crafting done in the process:
8-year old HAVI, who was crocheting a multi-colored scarf, cracked Missy up with her stories:
We had missed the exhibition's opening night last friday due to bad weather and tornado warnings, so this was the first time Missy and I had seen any of the artwork. I took photos of some of the pieces but not all, because we want people to go to ATHICA to check out the exhibit for themselves. Among our favorite pieces were these BON BONS (at the beginning of the post) made from scraps of fabric, ribbon, yarn, notions and recycled household items from around the kitchen and bathroom. There was also this impressive CHANDELIER and tiered WEDDING CAKE made entirely out of TAMPONS:
Another favorite piece was this installation of HARLEQUIN ROMANCE paperback books, bent back into heart shapes, and then piled beautifully up against one of the gallery walls:
Yet another wall was decorated in a kaleidoscope of brightly colored stickers, thousands and thousands of them. These photos certainly don't do the piece any justice...you really gotta go see this thing in person:
