Hey Y'all,
So, as you may already know, our friend Eric came down from Cleveland, Ohio last week to hang out and to attend the ATHENS POPFEST. He arrived late tuesday night, just in time to attend the afternoon shows at LITTLE KINGS the following wednesday...after an evening of hanging out at the house, we all ventured out to get a late night snack at the INTERNATIONAL HOUSE OF PANCAKES. On the way there, we happened to pass behind a local toy store and saw all these toddler toys left by the rear entrance, destined for the dumpster....we eagerly jumped out, grabbed the toys, and threw them into the trunk of my car...rescue mission complete:
By the time we got to IHOP, it was well past midnight. We celebrated staying out late on a "school night" with french fries and ice cream sundaes:
We stopped at Little Kings around 2am to see who was still hanging out after the shows...Missy found a stuffed bunny hiding in a planter and we marveled at a bumper sticker we saw in the parking lot:
Eric and I took Missy home then ventured back out to THE SECRET SQUIRREL around 3am to watch more bands. We got to see our friend Garrett perform as KETCHUP FART, and this really cool punk band from New Jersey called TITUS ANDRONICUS. By the time we got home it was nearly five in the morning:
Later that thursday morning, a technician from ADT came to install an alarm system in our house...it's our way of giving "the finger" to any would-be burglers in our neighborhood. We're totally lovin' our new alarm system. OPERATION FORTIFY in full effect, yo:
We hit up Little Kings that afternoon to see some bands...FLAGPOLE's very own GORDON LAMB checked us in at the door as St. Louis' THAT'S MY DAUGHTER kicked things off:
Our friend CHRIS MAC was there, running the merch table...in addition to playing drums with Seattle pop band PATIENCE PLEASE, Chris also runs the fantastic INDIEPAGES, the one-stop place on-line for all things "indiepop"...
We saw Popfest organizer ERIC HERNANDEZ sporting this cool-ass INTERCOURSE, PA t-shirt...Missy, who is all about Pennsylvania pride, gave Eric's Amish-horse-and-buggy shirt two-thumbs-up:
LITTLE BIRDS came all the way from Texas to rock Athens with their dusty brand of pop. I have to say, I am a sucker for bands with trombone players in the line-up:
We split Little Kings for a shopping spree at AGORA...we heard reports of some super awesome finds earlier that day, so we went to go investigate. On the way there we saw this flyer for an event at FLICKER THEATER & BAR, one of our favorite in-town places to see "events":
HOLY SHIT! We entered Agora and our minds were totally blown...YODA himself was there to greet the sweaty mass of shoppers, hunters, and collectors:
